MINDFULNESS MEDITATION

“One’s attention is carefully directed to an intense examination of certain aspects of one’s own existence… It is attentive listening, mindful seeing, and careful testing. We learn to smell acutely, to touch fully, and really pay attention to the changes taking place in all these experiences. We learn to listen to our own thoughts without being caught up in them.” Bhante Gunaratana

MINDFULNESS MEDITATION IS A POWERFUL AND SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN WAY OF DEALING WITH THE STRESSES THAT MODERN LIFE CAN THROW UP

Mindfulness involves maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of thoughts, feelings, sensations, and the surrounding environment through focused awareness, without judgment. This can bring a deep sense of calm and clarity into one’s life and the more one practices, the deeper the feelings of serenity and peace become.

The benefits of a daily mindfulness practice are numerous and various. It has been reported that it increases awareness, attention span and focus as well as clarity of thinking and perception.

It has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of depression, stress, and anxiety, as well as a variety of other conditions, including enhancing the functioning of the immune system and lowering blood pressure. Consequently. it is now being used in a significant number of healthcare settings around the world as well as by big corporations, schools, prisons, government departments, and even the US marines.

It has become the principal go-to self-help and personal development tool in the world.

The 2015 UK Mindfulness All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) described mindfulness as:

“Mindfulness is best considered an inherent human capacity akin to language acquisition; a capacity that enables people to focus on what they experience in the moment, inside themselves as well as in their environment, with an attitude of openness, curiosity and care”.
